COSMETIC EYELID SURGERY
General Description of Blepharoplasty:
Asian eyelids have unique anatomical features. About half of the Asian population does not have an upper eyelid crease. Asian blepharoplasty, although very common in Asia, remains relatively unknown in the West, where few cosmetic surgeons have mastered this technique. Doctor Vincent Nguyen, specialist in Asian eyelid surgery in Paris, is a reference in this field.
- Opens and brightens the eyes by lightening the eyelid.
- Rapid intervention under local anesthesia.
- Few complications with significant aesthetic gain.
- Ambulatory surgery.
About half of the Asian population does not have an upper eyelid crease. In this case, the eyelid appears full and convex, giving a tired appearance to the eyes. Additionally, epicanthus may also be present, manifesting as a flange of skin at the inner corner of the eye.
Anatomically, the major characteristic lies in the particularly low positioning of the levator palpebral superioris muscle, usually responsible for the formation of the eyelid crease. This low insertion results in a situation where the eyelid fold is located very low or even completely absent. At the same time, the presence of excessively loose skin and poor distribution of fat at the eyelid level contribute to this tired and heavy appearance of the eyes.
The intervention stages of a Blepharoplasty
- Before and after photographs of Asian blepharoplasty will be taken to document the results. It is recommended not to take medications containing aspirin in the 10 days preceding any cosmetic eyelid procedure.
The choice of anesthesia depends on the areas to be treated; generally, local anesthesia is preferred for the upper eyelids. However, an anxious patient may opt for general anesthesia or enhanced local anesthesia.
The positioning of the future eyelid crease is discussed with the patient before the procedure.
The duration of the operation varies depending on the work to be done, generally between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
In Asian eyelid cosmetic surgery, the predominant sensation is not pain, but rather a slight tension in the eyelids, sometimes accompanied by slight eye irritation.
Patients can go home the same day as the procedure.
The post-operative effects are mainly characterized by edema, bruising and sometimes tearing, the extent and duration of which vary from one patient to another.
No nursing follow-up is required after the procedure. Showers are allowed the next day.
The stitches are removed between the 3rd and 6th day following the procedure.
Depending on the profession, it is recommended to take leave from work for 5 to 10 days.
The scars may appear pink during the first weeks, but the application of makeup is authorized from the 7th day.
