Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty: Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery of the Abdominal Wall:

To regain a more defined silhouette after pregnancy or significant weight loss, abdominoplasty or mini-abdominoplasty are the only solutions to eliminate excess skin in the stomach area, a problem that sports or weight loss additional cannot resolve. Thanks to the numerous refinements developed in recent years, such as liposuction, lipofilling and the superior high tension technique, the results obtained are now more natural, discreet and harmonious with the rest of the body.

When the skin of the abdomen shows significant damage, such as abdominal apron, stretch marks, loss of elasticity and tone, marked distension or scarring, often associated with muscle wall problems such as distension, hernias, diastasis or significant loosening, liposuction alone is insufficient. The appropriate treatment will be an abdominoplasty or abdominoplasty.

These problems can be caused by:

  • Significant weight gain or loss (diet, hormonal disorders, bariatric surgery: bypass, sleeve, gastric band, etc.)
  • Abdominal distension after pregnancy
  • A stomach surgery

Abdominoplasty is a major intervention in plastic and aesthetic surgery of the stomach. However, in recent years, many technical improvements have been made: “superior high tension” technique, padding technique, reduction of anesthetics, improvement of suture techniques, dressings and compression sheaths.

These advances have considerably reduced the risks of complications and surgical outcomes, while significantly improving aesthetic results and the discretion of scars.

The final result can only be evaluated one year after the intervention. However, the changes are noticeable from the first dressing. In addition to the notable aesthetic improvement, tummy tuck surgery offers increased comfort to patients. Often, this improvement also makes it easier to adjust their weight balance.

The stages of abdominoplasty interventions

  • In the event of overweight, weight loss prior to surgical intervention is necessary (concept of weight contract). This reduces the risk of complications and improves the aesthetic quality of the result.
  • Two pre-operative consultations with a plastic surgeon, as well as a consultation with an anesthetist, are mandatory before any stomach or figure operation.
  • A sheath opening from the front is prescribed, and preoperative photographs of the stomach, apron and silhouette are taken.
  • The preoperative instructions before any cosmetic abdominal surgery are as follows:
  • Stop smoking at least one month before and up to one month after the procedure to reduce the risk of necrosis and complications.
  • Stop taking the pill one month before to avoid thromboembolic risks.
  • Stop all anticoagulant or antiplatelet treatment fifteen days before.

The procedure takes place under general anesthesia and lasts between 90 minutes and 3 hours, depending on the extent of the work to be accomplished. At the end of the operation, a pressure dressing is applied. Doctor Vincent Nguyen, cosmetic surgeon in Paris, uses the most advanced surgical techniques and personally operates on his patients.

  • After the procedure, dressings are necessary for approximately two weeks.

  • It is recommended to wear a girdle day and night for 4 to 6 weeks.

  • The pain, often comparable to tension and aches in the abdominal area, is generally bearable with appropriate treatment.

  • Sedema and bruising may appear in the days that follow.

  • Showers are allowed the day after the operation, but baths are not recommended for a month.

  • Hospitalization lasts between 2 and 4 days, depending on the extent of the operation, and one night or on an outpatient basis for mini-abdominoplasties.

  • A work stoppage of 2 to 4 weeks is generally necessary.

  • The scar remains pink for the first 2 to 3 months, then gradually fades between the 3rd month and up to 1 to 3 years. It is recommended not to expose the scar to the sun for a year.

  • Resumption of sporting activity can be considered from the 6th post-operative week.

  • Regular consultations will be scheduled generally at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and one year after the intervention.
